Coupar Angus Abbey Church
Situated on the South bank of the river Isla is the town of Coupar Angus, a major road junction heading North, South, East or West. A rural town, there is much to interst the historian. The site of the present church on the Dundee road is where a Cistercian Abbey was situated in the 12th century and one of the older buildings in the town was used by the Duke of Cumberland to house some of his men.
The church has a membership of 323 with a weekly attendace of between 40-60 and some of the members help with a busy childrens ministry that reaches out to many young families who otherwise would have no church invlovement at all. The Kirk Session have recently decided to adopt a Unitary Consitution making it much easier for members who are not elders to be involved in the workings of the Kirk Session. Opportunities for service are limited only by people's imagination.
The Church refurbishment has now completed the first phase. The pews were removed and comfortable seating installed. The warmth of the welcome is now matched by the warmth of the church and members and vistors alike enjoy the relaxed, easy and informal worship each Sunday. Tea and coffee after the service provides an opportunity to enjoy fellowship.
